Highlands Stables, Kent
Equine Planning Solutions were approached to help obtain planning approval for conversion of an existing timber stable block to a small one-bedroom residential dwelling.
Highlands Stables is set in a remote Greenbelt location near Maidstone in Kent. The site had been subjected to regular episodes of vandalism and theft for many years. Our client had tried all manner of ways to secure the site without success and had therefore decided that the best way to protect the site was for the site to be permanently supervised.
Whilst we put forward a robust case for converting the existing timber buildings the local authority refused the application stating that due to their size and timber construction the stables could not be readily converted to residential use. Following a successful planning appeal approval of the scheme was obtained which is a significant success bearing in mind the lack of precedent for this type of conversion.
