Warwick Racecourse, Warwickshire
Warwick Racecourse is a course rich in tradition and heritage, one which has certainly played its part in the history of horse racing – most notably when it became the first course to include a jump race in its programme, establishing National Hunt racing as it is known today.
Equine Planning Solutions have worked closely with Warwick Racecourse to look at ways of improving the spectators raceday experience. Proposals include sympathetic restoration and extension to Chandlers, a Grade 2 listed Grandstand, and a new visitor entrance building/public café located close at the main entrance to the course.
Works to listed buildings are always challenging with designs needing to protect and enhance the listed attributes of the existing building. Proposals for Chandlers included infilling an existing courtyard to form a covered hospitality area with views of the track.
The proposed visitor building was not subject to the same constraints with the intention here to design an attractive modern gateway building to the site.
